Fire agate is an opaque, limonite-bearing chalcedony with iridescence which is created by diffraction of light by the layered structure. When viewed under light, iridescent effects can encompass a rainbow of colors including red, gold, green, blue and occasionally, blue-violet. Fire agate is found in only a few locations around the world. The most significant sources are Mexico and the Southwestern United States.
